![]() Now, what’s that? Imagine a bulk of notes, papers, and discussions that explain the creation of Microsoft Windows compiled comprehensively into books, files, and databases. ReactOS originated from Germany and based its entire project on the Windows NT Architecture. ReactOS has now released its latest Version 0.4.11, the first after it received an alpha status, a rank that signifies an amateur operating system for the end user The Idea of ReactOS? In the last twenty years, ReactOS has launched numerous versions of its OS and is in continuous development as of yet. In 1998, the project was restarted under a new name, ReactOS with an agenda to build a completely new open source OS, and compete it with Windows, which was then at a monopolistic position in the market. However, the project never moved ahead of discussions. PD: Btw, I am seeing lately ReactOS activity everywhere.First came into existence, in 1995, ReactOS began as a project to clone Windows 95. Finally I would be able to play Steam with Adobe Photoshop in the background :D Also Thorium Core is developing a farm of servers running Virtualized Machines with ReactOS on it to stream OSes towards mobiles, and tablets.īut I can even imagine a potential, second "SteamOS" able to run Windows apps with a nice business model around it. I know at least 3 large companies in the USA using actively ReactOS to develop real bussiness solutions about security. ReactOS is lately rising some attraction through companies. ReactOS is open-sourced which means it can be modded to perform much better than any Windows OS version out there. So it has the perfect size to be easily bundled inside any piece of hardware if desired. ReactOS, the whole OS, can be run in less than 256MB RAM, and just 1GB or so of Harddisk. ![]() Now, instead "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" as you did (since you didnt support your argument at all). So at least we deserve some respect for those bunch of opensource developers working on their own without any other support than their ReactOS community. ![]() Even more, you won't find out there any Operating System following NT architecture and able to run Windows drivers and apps natively but ReactOS. Second, and the main point here, ReactOS is open-sourced. But comparing Windows 98 with ReactOS is the real joke here.įirst because ReactOS lately seems to have improved a lot: They have just released a new version able to run from Microsoft Office to latest VLC or Photoshop CS. Well.First of all Debian is not just the only OS out there. In summary ReactOS is a joke, and should never be considered an option for anybody. It would make more sense to use windows 98 than reactOS, that's how bad reactOS is at the moment. ReactOS might've been a good choice if it was farther along on it's development with more compatibility with windows, but it isn't even close in it's current state. Τhe Rolling Ham Cheese の投稿を引用:Why would Valve work on fixing the utterly broken and useless ReactOS when debian is already a functional base? In the end I would like to wish Valve all the best. While I like Linux and all, as a software developer myself I think the option of adopting ReactOS could have been more beneficial to everybody and to Valve in the first place. And maybe Valve could have completely overthrown Microsoft by having a Windows-compatible OS of their own. Plus the fact that the user wouldn't need to switch his/her platform. ![]() Why? Because you would instantly have all hardware support available since end users could just use standard drivers for Windows to identify their devices. If the main business goal of Valve was to have their own freedom of choice and to control their platform of development, then I think ReactOS would have been a better choice. While I think it's pretty late for this now when SteamOS is in late development stages, however I wanted to mention to anyone in the development department at Valve that there is a Windows binary compatible operating system out there called ReactOS (which is completely free and open source. ![]()
